This week we had the pleasure of catching up with the inspiring Maxine Hamilton Stubber from WOW – We Own Wellbeing

Maxine shares her top tips about how to prepare for an interview, reduce stress and how to start a career in the health and wellbeing sector.

Why did you go into your chosen field?
Osteopathy is about ‘dynamic equilibrium’ or ‘movement in balance’ which describes life for me. I was intrigued and inspired by the wholistic approach and getting to the root cause. I also love functional anatomy….how we work. Its a true joy to work with people sharing this information so they feel empowered, inspired, and learn how awesome they are.

What would be your top tips for someone before they go into an interview or an important meeting?

– Spend three minutes with your eyes closed quietly watching your breath, opening your heart, and attuning to the stillness, silence and space:
– Breath in for 1-4 secs, hold for 1-2 secs, breath out for 1-4 secs, hold for 1-2 secs.
– Then Focus on what you want! Feel it, be it, embody it!

Are there any exercises/practices you recommend to help settle nerves/anxiety?

Breath is key. Keep it really simple with one hand on your stomach. Watch your breath for 3 minutes. Allow your thoughts to be there, observe them without judgement….simply watch as if you were videoing the experience.

You are what you choose to focus on, make it good….every moment counts.

What advice would you give someone looking to follow a career pathway in the health and wellbeing sector?

Follow your heart. When I first discovered osteopathy, I went to a conference and sat on the edge of my chair totally enraptured. I didn’t understand a word of it, but I made a commitment there and then to find out.
Your head, heart and “gut” are very clever when listened to equally, and they matter when the going gets tough. Knowing why you are doing what you are doing underpins radiant success.
